47603 How to Grow in Your Relationship with Others

There are two truths about relationships you need to accept.

First, you cannot change others. You can change only yourself with the help of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Second, you bring to your relationship what is in your heart even when you are not aware of it. We all have anger, guilt, bitterness, hurt, pains, depression, and/or fear (sometimes well hidden from our awareness), and they greatly influence how we interact with others.

In other words, a relationship starts with you.

The healthier your inner self is, the healthier your relationships with others will become.

To grow in your relationship with others, the good health of your inner self is essential.

Only with the help of the Holy Spirit, you can overcome all that make your soul sick – anger, fear, guilt, hurt and pains, bitterness, jealousy, hopelessness, etc.

It takes time and effort for your inner self to be healthy and to grow in your relationships with others, but it is worth your time and effort because God created us to be relational beings. Your life will be fuller and richer when you have a healthy relationship with others.

Key Verse
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35)
