47602 How to Live an Abundant Life in Christ

Jesus says, “I have come so that they may have life, and may have it abundantly” (John 10:10).

The abundant life He promises may not be what we think it is. Our earthly minds tend to envision “the abundant life” as material abundance or a life of our dreams and aspirations. While material abundance is not excluded and while God is often the source of our dreams and aspirations, the context here is that Jesus is the Good Shepherd and we are His sheep. In other words, the Good Shepherd defines what the abundant life is for us.

During the time of Jesus as they are today, sheep were kept for different purposes of their owners. The abundant life is not about our being served but becoming grace-filled servants to serve the King faithfully and fruitfully.

With this in mind, to live an abundant life in Christ, we grow in truth and keep aligning our attitudes, beliefs, conduct, and decisions to God’s way and will. It is to develop a Christ-centered lifestyle that is being led and empowered by the indwelling Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). It is to be in fellowship with the Father and the Son (1 John 1:3), enjoying to be with Him and obeying to do His will (John 14:21).

One of the most fulfilling experiences for believers is to give generously. Give the gift of salvation in Christ by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus. Give the love of God by loving your neighbor as yourself. Give freedom by bringing the Kingdom with power. Give hope and light to your world by bearing the fruit of the Spirit. Be Jesus in your world so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

Key Verse

“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” (Galatians 2:20, NLT)
