48002.2 I Am Not Sure About My Moral Purity

You are not sure if you have broken any of God’s moral standards.

What are His moral standards?

  1. You shall not have any other gods than God.
  2. You shall not make any idols to worship them.
  3. You shall not take the name of God in vain.
  4. Remember the Sabbath and set it apart as holy to God.
  5. Honor your father and mother.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
  10. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.

These are known as the Ten Commandments. Jesus raises the bar of these God’s moral standards even higher.

“You have heard that it was said to an older generation, ‘Do not murder,’ and ‘whoever murders will be subjected to judgment.’ But I say to you that anyone who is angry with a brother will be subjected to judgment. And whoever insults a brother will be brought before the council, and whoever says ‘Fool’ will be sent to fiery hell.” (Matthew 5:21–22)

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27–28)

Jesus makes the point that no one is morally perfect by God’s standards.

Think about it.
