Does it comply with the directions given in God’s written Word?
“Direct my steps by your word! Do not let any sin dominate me!” —Psalms 119:133
Does it demonstrate love for God?
“If you love me, you will obey my commandments. ”—John 14:15
Does it demonstrate love for others?
“ For the commandments, “Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet,” (and if there is any other commandment) are summed up in this, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” —Romans 13:9-10
Does it promote personal holiness?
“For God did not call us to impurity but in holiness. ” —1 Thessalonians 4:7
Does it reflect the fruit of the Spirit?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.” —Galatians 5:22
Does it require faith and trust in God?
“Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. ” —Hebrews 11:6
Does it make sense when you use sanctified reasoning that is based on God’s truth?
“Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.” —Romans 12:2
Does it seem to fit with the surrounding circumstances?
“In Christ we too have been claimed as God’s own possession, since we were predestined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to the counsel of his will.” —Ephesians 1:11
Does it concur with the advice you have received from wise Godly counselors?
“Plans fail when there is no counsel, but with abundant advisers they are established” —Proverbs 15:22
Does it generate a supernatural inner peace and calmness that cannot be attributed to your circumstances?
“Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” —Philippians 4:6-7
Note:
You do not have to be able to answer “yes” to all of the preceding questions to confirm the direction as being from God.
You may not be able to answer some of the questions, but there should be a clear consensus among those that you can.
However, if you answer “no” to any of these questions wait on God to give you more confirmation before taking action.
