47703 How to Use the Word of God

Christianity is primarily our relationship with God through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit.

There are times when reasoning and persuasion are necessary for proclaiming the Gospel (see Acts 18:4). In all situations, introducing others to Jesus involves the spiritual realm and dynamics. For this reason, it is important to use the Word of God in sharing your faith.

so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:11

You can trust in the Word of God to accomplish the purpose God has for the person with whom you are sharing.

You will want to become a diligent student of the Word of God (Bible) so that the Holy Spirit in you can remind you of the right verses to give to others at the appropriate time. The more familiar you become with the Word of God, the more natural you will be able to use it in your conversation with others.

As the Holy Spirit brings to your remembrance, you can quote a verse word for word or paraphrase it. If you have your mobile device, you can access the Bible on this JO App or open your favorite Bible app and show them the verses. Have them read the verses for themselves, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak directly to their hearts.

Opening the Bible (or a Bible app), you can also read and show a story or stories in the Bible that may be applicable to their life circumstances. You can use the Word of God to strengthen, encourage, and/or comfort them.

The Bible verses alone can tell the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Four Spiritual Laws

Law 1: For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Law 2: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
For the payoff of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

Law 3: But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
Jesus replied, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

Law 4: But to all who have received him—those who believe in his name —he has given the right to become God’s children (John 1:12)
For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Listen! I am standing at the door and knocking! If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come into his home and share a meal with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20)

Romans Road

“Do I really need salvation?”
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
Just as it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10)
So then, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all people because all sinned (Romans 5:12)

“Is my sin really that bad?”
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

“How can there be any hope for me?”
But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

“How can I be saved?”
Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10:10 For with the heart one believes and thus has righteousness and with the mouth one confesses and thus has salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)

“Did God really accept me?”
For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:13)

“What do I do now?”
Consequently faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the preached word of Christ. (Romans 10:17)
