So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away —look, what is new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17)
You are in Christ. The Holy Spirit dwells in you. God the Father loves you forever.
Being united with Christ, you are a new creation. The resurrection life of Jesus rebirthed you as a new being.
Before knowing Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we were all sinners. All of humanity has rebelled against God or doesn’t care about Him even though He is our Creator and Sustainer. Our spiritual nature was marred by sin.
Now that you are in Christ, the very core and true nature of who you are changed.
This new “you” is now united with Jesus and your new self exists entirely in fellowship with the Triune God (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, Three in One).
God’s Word, the Bible, tries to explain to you what has happened to you and your true identity in many different ways.
It is an adoption. You are now welcomed into God’s family. God is the King, and you are given the rights and privileges of royalty.
It is immigration. You now belong to another kingdom. “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son” (Colossians 1:13, ESV).
It is a rebirth. You are born of God. With your first birth, you were born a child of Adam sharing his sinful nature. With your rebirth (born again), you are born a child of the Second Adam (Jesus Christ) with His holy nature.
