The Spirit Is Good

The Spirit Is Holy

“Do not reject me. Do not take your Holy Spirit away from me.” —Psalm 51:11

The Spirit Knows Everything

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own authority, but will speak whatever he hears, and will tell you what is to come.” —John 16:13

Works of the Holy Spirit

The Spirit Gives Life

“‘The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.’” —Job 33:4

The Spirit Convicts of Sin

“‘But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I am going away. For if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong concerning sin and righteousness and judgment—concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.’” —John 16:7-11

The Spirit Regenerates Us

“…he saved us, not by works of righteousness that we have done but on the basis of his mercy, through the washing of the new birth and the renewing of the Holy Spirit,…” —Titus 3:5

The Spirit Indwells Us

The Spirit Guides into Truth

“But, when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all the truth: for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he shall hear, that will he speak: and he will show you things to come.” —John 16:13

The Spirit Teaches

“‘But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and will cause you to remember everything I said to you.’” —John 14:26

The Spirit Intercedes

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how we should pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes on behalf of the saints according to God’s will.” —Romans 8:26-27

The Spirit Reveals Things of God

“But just as it is written, ‘Things that no eye has seen, or ear heard, or mind imagined, are the things God has prepared for those who love him.’ God has revealed these to us by the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the things of a man except the man’s spirit within him? So too, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things that are freely given to us by God. And we speak about these things, not with words taught us by human wisdom, but with those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people.” —1 Corinthians 2:9-13

The Spirit Inspires

“…for no prophecy was ever borne of human impulse; rather, men carried along by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” —2 Peter 1:21

And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.” —Acts 13:52

The Spirit Distributes Gifts

“Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are different results, but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the benefit of all.… It is one and the same Spirit, distributing as he decides to each person, who produces all these things.” —1 Corinthians 12:4-7, 11

The Spirit Empowers for Ministry

“‘But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth.’” —Acts 1:8

The Spirit Anoints for Service

“‘And you have an anointing from the Holy One and know all things.’” —1 John 2:20

“‘And as for you, the anointing you received from him resides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things, it is true and is not a lie. Just as it has taught you, you reside in him.’” —1 John 2:27

The Spirit Glorifies Christ

“He will glorify me, because he will receive from me what is mine and will tell it to you.” —John 16:14
