Jesus Is God

“He himself is before all things, and all things are held together in him.” —Colossians 1:17

Creator of Everything

“The Word [Jesus] was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” —John 1:2-3

Son of God

“For this reason the Jewish leaders were trying even harder to kill him because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was also calling God his own Father, thus making himself equal with God.” —John 5:18

Co-equal with the Father

“The Father and I are one.” —John 10:30

Without Sin

“Who among you can prove me guilty of any sin? If I am telling you the truth, why don’t you believe me?” —John 8:46

“For to this you were called, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving an example for you to follow in his steps. He committed no sin nor was deceit found in his mouth.” —1 Peter 2:21, 22

Able to Forgive Sin

“‘But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins’—then he said to the paralytic—‘Stand up, take your stretcher, and go home.’” —Matthew 9:6

Performed Miracles

“At that very time Jesus cured many people of diseases, sicknesses, and evil spirits, and granted sight to many who were blind.” —Luke 7:21

“‘Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man clearly attested to you by God with powerful deeds, wonders, and miraculous signs that God performed among you through him, just as you yourselves know—…” —Acts 2:22

Jesus Became Human

“And the Word became flesh and took up residence among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”—John 1:14

“…but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, by looking like other men, and by sharing in human nature. He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross!” —Philippians 2:7-8

Was Tired

Jacob’s well was there, so Jesus, since he was tired from the journey, sat right down beside the well. It was about noon.” —John 4:6

Was Thirsty

After this Jesus, realizing that by this time everything was completed, said (in order to fulfill the scripture), ‘I am thirsty!’” —John 19:28

Was Hungry

“When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. And while they still could not believe it (because of their joy) and were amazed, he said to them, ‘Do you have anything here to eat?’ So they gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in front of them.” —Luke 24:40-43

Was Emotional

“As Jesus came ashore he saw the large crowd and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he taught them many things.” — Mark 6:34

“Jesus wept.” —John 11:35

Was Tempted

“For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin.” —Hebrews 4:15

Was Killed

“When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, ‘It is completed!’ Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” —John 19:30

Jesus Is the Prophesied Messiah

His Virgin Birth

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the virgin is about to conceive and will give birth to a son. You, young woman, will name him Immanuel.” —Isaiah 7:14

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way. While his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Now all this happened to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: ‘Look! The virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call him Emmanuel,’ which means ‘God with us.’” —Matthew 1:18,22-23

His Bethlehem Birthplace

“As for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, seemingly insignificant among the clans of Judah – from you a king will emerge who will rule over Israel on my behalf, one whose origins are in the distant past.” —Micah 5:2

“So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.” —Luke 2:4,6-7

His Childhood in Egypt

“When Israel was a young man, I loved him like a son, and I summoned my son out of Egypt.” —Hosea 11:1

“Then he got up, took the child and his mother during the night, and went to Egypt. He stayed there until Herod died. In this way what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet was fulfilled: ‘I called my Son out of Egypt.’” —Matthew 2:14-15

His Death for Mankind

“But he lifted up our illnesses, he carried our pain; even though we thought he was being punished, attacked by God, and afflicted for something he had done. He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; he endured punishment that made us well; because of his wounds we have been healed. All of us had wandered off like sheep; each of us had strayed off on his own path, but the Lord caused the sin of all of us to attack him.” —Isaiah 53:4-6

“For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also came through a man.” —1 Corinthians 15:21

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we may cease from sinning and live for righteousness. By his wounds you were healed.” —1 Peter 2:24

His Betrayal

“I then said to them, ‘If it seems good to you, pay me my wages, but if not, forget it.’ So they weighed out my payment – thirty pieces of silver. The Lord then said to me, ‘Throw to the potter that exorbitant sum at which they valued me!’ So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter at the temple of the Lord. And one will say to him, ‘What are these wounds on your chest?’ and he will answer, ‘Some that I received in the house of my friends.’” —Zechariah 11:12-13; 13:6

“Then one of the twelve, the one named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, ‘What will you give me to betray him into your hands?’ So they set out thirty silver coins for him. Then when Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus had been condemned, he regretted what he had done and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders, saying, ‘I have sinned by betraying innocent blood!’ But they said, ‘What is that to us? You take care of it yourself!’ So Judas threw the silver coins into the temple and left.” —Matthew 26:14-16; 27:3-10

His Crucifixion

“My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help?… My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; An evil gang closes in on me… They have pierced my hands and feet. They divide my garments among themselves and throw dice for my clothing. —Psalm 22:1, 16, 18

And they crucified Him. They also divided His garments by casting lots to decide what each of them would take… From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land. At the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?’ which means, ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’” —Mark 15:24, 33–34

His Resurrection

“Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay.’” —Psalm 16:9-10

“Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.” —Acts 2:31

Jesus Accomplished His Mission

“…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’” —Matthew 20:28

“…and he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world. This is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.” —1 John 2:2; 4:10

“God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God.” —2 Corinthians 5:21

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we may cease from sinning and live for righteousness. By his wounds you were healed.” —1 Peter 2:24

He Rose from the Dead

“So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)” —John 20:3-9

He Ascended into Heaven

“Then Jesus led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he blessed them. Now during the blessing he departed and was taken up into heaven. So they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,…” —Luke 24:50-52

He is Our Mediator

“For there is one God and one intermediary between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself as a ransom for all, revealing God’s purpose at his appointed time.” —1 Timothy 2:5

He Obtained Eternal Redemption

He Redeemed Us from the Curse of the Law

He Sanctifies and Cleanses the Church

“Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the word, so that he may present the church to himself as glorious—not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.” —Ephesians 5:25-27

Jesus’ Future Mission

He Will Return

“‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking up into the sky? This same Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come back in the same way you saw him go into heaven.’” —Acts 1:11

“And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come again and take you to be with me, so that where I am you may be too.” —John 14:3

He Will Resurrect Believers

“Listen, I will tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. Now when this perishable puts on the imperishable, and this mortal puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will happen, ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory.’ Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?’ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!” —1 Corinthians 15:51-5?

He Will Reign as King Over His New Creation

“As a result God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow—in heaven and on earth and under the earth—and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.” —Philippians 2:9-11
