Apologetics
“But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess.” (1 Peter 3:15)
Christian apologetics is the defense of our faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
There are many reasons for the hope we have in Christ. Among them is evidence that the Christian Gospel message is true.
This JO App has “Facts for Faith” on the main menu. The articles are grouped into three sections:
- Evidence for the Existence of God
- Evidence for Jesus’ True Identity
- Evidence for the Reliability of the Bible
Teach from these articles. It will strengthen the faith of your congregation.
Faith Seeking Understanding
This rational inquiry also satisfies our intellect.
Augustine, a 4th-century theologian, said Crede ut intelligas (“believe so that you may understand” in Latin).
Anselm, an 11th-century Archbishop of Canterbury, stated fides quaerens intellectum (“faith seeking understanding” in Latin).
Theological education arises from this.
We Christians first place our faith in God and Jesus Christ. But we want to understand what we now believe.
Love God with All Your Mind
Jesus said to him, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'” (Matthew 22:37)
Intellect and mind are gifts from God. We are to be good stewards of them. We are also commanded to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2) and to love God with all our minds and intellect.
Teaching believers to deepen their understanding will help them love God more fully and experience true transformation.
