24300 Honor God with Devotion

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” (Romans 12:1)

Worship is more than songs and praises. With your devotion and service, you also worship God.

Devotion refers to a commitment and dedication to God. Service that flows out of your devotion is an act of worship.

You are making God first and foremost in every area of your life. Not only when you gather together with other believers but also in everyday living circumstances and situations, you are making God the center.

Practically, that means to “do all things without grumbling or disputing” (Philippians 2:14) “through the one who strengthens” (Philippians 4:13) you. “And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17).

Brother Lawrence, in his well-known The Practice of the Presence of God, puts this Scriptural commandment in the following way:

“We ought not to be weary of doing little things for the love of God, who regards not the greatness of the work, but the love with which it is performed.”

Devotion can also be described as a prayerful life. It is a daily living that is mindful of the presence of God and conversational with the loving Father who constantly watches over you.

“He does not ask much of us, merely a thought of Him from time to time, a little act of adoration, sometimes to ask for His grace, sometimes to offer Him your sufferings, at other times to thank Him for the graces, past and present, He has bestowed on you, in the midst of your troubles to take solace in Him as often as you can. Lift up your heart to Him during your meals and in company; the least little remembrance will always be the most pleasing to Him. One need not cry out very loudly; He is nearer to us than we think.” —Brother Lawrence, The Practice of The Presence of God
