47601 How to Deepen Your Relationship with God

Jesus appointed twelve “so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach and have authority to cast out demons.” (Mark 3:14)

To grow in your relationship with God, there are two critical factors: abiding (“be with him”) and obedience (“send them out”).

The truth cycle is involved in obedience that deepens your relationship with God.

  1. See the truth
  2. Understand the truth
  3. Value the truth
  4. Live (apply) the truth

To grow in your relationship with God, you begin the truth cycle by seeing the truth.

Just as God opened the eyes of the servant of Elisha to see the horses and chariots of fire all around them (read 2 Kings 6:15-17), we need to have our eyes opened to see God’s truth.

Once we see God’s truth, we must pursue its meaning in relation to our daily life (understand the truth) and make it a priority in our life as a treasure (value the truth) so that we can apply it to change and align our attitudes, beliefs, conduct, and decisions to the will and way of God (live the truth). When our life is changed, we can see more of God’s truth, and the cycle starts again.

Another important aspect of your relationship with God is to abide. It is to be with Him, to stay close to Him, and to have fellowship with Him. Prayer is one of the best places to abide with Jesus. The Lord’s Prayer gives us the principles for rich fellowship with the Father and the Son.

Key Verse

“As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God! I thirst for God, for the living God. I say, ‘When will I be able to go and appear in God’s presence?’” (Psalm 42:1,2)
